George A. Conn to Richard I Conn Bill of Sale Know all men by these presents that I George A. Conn of the county of Rutherford and state of Tennessee for and in consideration of four hundred dollars which I owe to Richard I. Conn, have this day given, granted and sold, and by these presents do give, grant and sell unto the said Richard I. Conn, the following property, consisting of Negroes, goods and chattel -- to wit one Negro boy named Hartwell aged six years, one Negro girl named Narcissa aged nine years, also one bay mare with bridle and saddle, five head of cattle, and all my household furniture consisting of beds & C. To have and to hold the fore mentioned property unto him the said Richard I. Conn, his executors, administrators, assignees as his and their own proper possessions from henceforth forever. In witness whereof I do here unto set my hand and affix my seal this 25 day of January AD 1827

This day came said plaintiff by his attorney but the defendant being solemnly called came not but made default and because the court here are not advised what amount of damages the plaintiff hath sought(??) owed, it is ordered that a writ of inquire awarded and to be ________ next term. This day came the said plaintiff by his attorney and thereupon came also a jury of good and lawful men to wit James Rucker, William H. Lawrence, Isaac Miller, James Bone, Hillary Wade, Alfred Ranrow, James D. Sarape, William Manchester, Robert P. Shasson, Jesse Gornor, Noah W. Dillard, and Samuel B. Bryant, and do say that the plaintiff hath sustained damages to the amount of one cent.
It is therefore considered by the court that the plaintiff recover against the defendant the damages aforesaid by the jury assessed and also all the costs in this behalf expended. (Rutherford County, TN County Court Minutes,Book U, pg 291.)

Elizabeth Marshall vs. George A. Conn She is aged 93 years and was married to _________ and he is now deceased. She has never remarried and has no children. She owns considerable estate. In 1833, Conn who married a distant relative of her's, persuaded her to let Nicholas Branch live with her as she was living alone. He was her nephew and without a home. In 1834, she purchased a slave Fed from Thomas Parham. Branch and Conn induced her to move to the western district of Tennessee in the fall of 1834 and said they would move to Haywood County where her old friend Joshua Farrington lived. Branch was to live with her and Conn and his family to live nearby. They had no money. She placed money with them to be invested in land in the western district, about $2000. They went to Fayette County and Branch collected money as her agent in Williamson County. She sent for Farrington and told him of the situation and he started court proceedings. Conn sold her land to _______ Wilson for $1500 and collected the money. She resided with Conn 18 months after returning to Williamson County.

Hillsboro, Leiper's Fork community. Two Houses in Hillsboro, 9 miles from Franklin, were destroyed by fire Monday Morning Last, about 4 o'clock A.M. One of the houses was occupied as a division Room by Sons of Temperance.-- The fire originated accidentally from a candle burning down, which had been placed in one of the rooms with the corpse of a Negro boy who died about 10 o'clock sabbath night of Typhiod fever. The houses belonged to Dr. George A. Conn and loss is estimated at about $500-$600. Western Weekly Review. (Miscellaneous Records of Williamson County, TN Vol 2, pg 72.)

Conn, G. A. vs. J. P. & S. P. Cole The parties appear and defendants withdrew their plea because they say they cannot gainsay plaintiffs action against them for $200 damages. It is therefore considered by the court that plaintiff recover of defendant said fines and the cost in this behalf expended for which execution is issued [rest illegible] (Franklin County, TN Circuit Court minutes 1861-1867 p. 369-381)

Loose records in Franklin County Archives has documents relating to this case. Evidently J.P. And S. P. Cole owed to George A. Conn $200 for the hire of his boy John on or before the 25th of December 1861. They also promised to furnish him(John) with three suits of clothes, one winter suit and two summer suits, the necessary shoes and socks, hat, blanket and pay for his taxes and return him to said Conn against the above mentioned true value.

George Conn is listed in 1787 Census of Virginia as being in Pittsylvania County, VA and is probably the son of George Conn. George was born in 1732. Colonial Soldiers of the South 1732-1774, Murtie June Clark. Pg. 221, Gooch's Regiment 1739-1741. His Majesty's ship Sufolk Muster Book. Private George Conn, Discharged 5Jun1741.
Gooch's American Regiment was raised to fight in War of Jenkin's Ear. Robert Jenkin's master of ship Rebecca, had his ship seized by pirates in the Caribbean in 1731. Jenkins accused his captors of cutting off one of his ears. Seven years later the story of Jenkin's ear tipped the scale and Great Britain declard war on Spain.
Col. Alexander Spotwood, former lt. general of VA recommended raising of an American Regiment to fight in the Caribbean with British Regulars. He died 7Jun1740 and was succeeded in command by William Gooch. American Regiment consisted of 30 companies, 4 from VA, Mass, & NC; 5 from NY; 8 from Penn; 3 from NJ and Mary; 2 from Conn and RI; 1 from NH.
